Aquatica

Aquatica is a sound installation made for the NAIRS lab in Scuol (CH) during summer 2023. A few transducers are installed behind the wall in order to transform the wooden surface into a vibrating membrane. Stretched cotton threads are installed into the wall and carry the sound vibrations into the space.

Three layered field-recordings (the field of falling water, of flowing water and of still water) have been recorded during the month of June 2023 in the surroundings of Scuol (CH): the Inn river around NAIRS (with its current dragging the stones), the Lai Nair (with the secret life of its insects), and the Clozza springs (with its boiling and its drops). The soundtrack can be perceived compassionately as a whole, enjoying the network of relationships that they create, or as an apperception of the single fields, which are in turns slightly distorted. It was installed in the Nairs Lab through the resonating wall, while the network of strings carry the sound as (silent) vibrations, dissolving the soundtracks into non-objects spread in the silence. Dario Calderone, NAIRS, 7-2023
